Cowichan Chief and Council can appoint between three and seven Board Members.
The Board must be made up of at east one Elder, a Cowichan Tribes Citizen, and a non-Cowichan Tribes Citizen.
Board members must be at least 18 years old and can not be employees of Cowichan Tribes, or have any formal role in an election.
Board members set on the Board until Chief and Council appoints a new Board (reviewed every 4 years)
All members of the Board must swear an oath of committed to confidentiality and avoiding any conflicts of interest.
Wayne Paige Sr is an Elder from Xinupsum. Now retired, he worked for many years in Fisheries for Cowichan Tribes, and is active with youth supporting healthy lifestyles.
Ernie Elliott is an Elder from Kwa'mutsun. Now retired, he worked most of his career for Tribes as the band manager and various other administrative positions. Ernie served one term as chief and several terms as councillor.
Emily Salmon is a Cowichan member from S'amunu. She is an SFU professor who teaches sustainable business. She has experience providing economic development, governance, and human resources support within Indigenous organizations.
Brian Thom is UVic professor who teaches in Anthropology and the Indigenous Law program. He has been working with Quw'utsun Mustimuhw for over 30 years on rights, title and governance issues, helping protect cultural sites and sacred places.
