The Cowichan Tribes Complaints and Appeals Board was formed in 2024 following the process set out in section 10 of the Cowichan Tribes Custom Election Code passed in October 2023.
The Board is responsible for receiving and investigating (1) election process appeals, and (2) complaints made against a Chief or Councilor, including questions of their breaching their Oath of Office.

Following the Cowichan Elections Law, the Complaints and Appeals Board is made up by a Cowichan Tribes Elder, a Cowichan Tribes member, someone who isn't a member, but knows abuot law, conflict or elections. Board members can not work for Cowichan Tribes or be part of the election.
The Complaints and Appeals Board is responsible to hear Petitions to remove a chief or councillor, and Appeals of a Cowichan Election. The Board must integrate Syuwentst (the Teachings) into all aspects of the work.
